2019 High School Summer Mission Trip

June 29 - July 6

About the trip:

Students and adult leaders will go to Puerto Rico June 29 – July 6, 2019 in partnership with Group International Missions. This year’s mission trip will be focused on relief efforts (construction, rebuilding, clean up, etc) in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. Even though we will be in PR almost two years after the hurricane hit, there is still significant need.

The cost for this trip will be $1650 per person for all expenses, including airfare, housing, food, and ground transportation. *Please note: Rather than factor ministry money into each individual’s cost to raise, the Plant Sale/Car Wash will instead be a mandatory team fundraiser and all money earned at the car wash will be used as funds for work supplies etc while in PR.*

While you are responsible for the total cost of the trip, take this opportunity to invite others like friends, family, neighbors or folks in our congregation to support the work we’re doing as a team by asking them to support you financially. The student ministry team will provide help and guidance in this fundraising process. Please note the following funds deadlines:

Feb 10th $150 deposit

March 17th First $500 installment

April 28th Second $500 installment

May 19th Final $500 installment

Selection process:

Applications will be reviewed and applicants with any behavior or attendance issues, possible health concerns or other general concerns raised through the application process will meet with
Jocelyn Peirce or Olivia Morales to discuss. The team roster will be finalized by late February.

Instructions to Apply:

By Feb 3:

  • Register online
  • Submit a Student Health Form if you didn’t go on Fall Retreat or Deep Freeze (email login will come from CampDocs.com)
  • To pay for your trip, you should plan to send support letters to friends and family outside the church along with personal funds. See sample support letter below.

 Pre Trip expectations:

  • Maintain a Christ like attitude and posture towards my fellow teammates (Phil. 2:5-11)
  • Once registered, teens are expected to regularly attend weekend youth group (Sundays at 11am) and/or a High School Faith Group.
  • Teens must attend mandatory meetings which are:

Team Meeting February 9 (9-11:30am)
Team Meeting March 30 (9-11:30am)
Team Meeting April 27 (9-11:30am)
Work Team Connection Events May 19 (time TBD)
Commissioning Sunday, June 23
Missions Trip Reunion (Aug 4)

  • The Trivia Night Fundraiser is March 2, and is not mandatory. You must sign up ahead of time to volunteer and get a portion of funds from the night attributed to your account. There will be a limited amount of slots available on a first come first serve basis.
  • Any absences must be communicated and approved ahead of time. Excessive absences may result in removal from the team

On-time payments and forms are YOUR responsibility. You will be responsible to pay for your plane ticket once it has been purchased. Failure to complete any of these requirements or to submit everything on – time can be grounds for dismissal from the summer missions team.
